Creating Slides for Final Project

Yikes! It's already November! I hope you guys are ready for the windy season!

For this week, we made slides according to the principle of C.R.A.P for our final presentation. I kept in my mind to keep the slides simple as possible. In other words, to put it simple as possible for the viewers to easily understand. I was about to insert blurry photos, so I needed to beware of that. I hope I did not put the slides too busy. If you have any suggestions on my slides, please comment! Thank you.

Contrast: The white slides made the pictures and words stand out.
Repetition: I used the color red and green whenever I wrote "Fast Food" & "Slow Food"
Alignment: The words are mostly on the top, just like a tittle.
Proximity: I placed the pictures mostly in the middle.

I tried to find photos that were straight forward. For example on my last slide, I wanted a appropriate picture to convey the message. I thought we needed a discussion question, but apparently we don't! I go fix it to Q&A then!

I'm going to go visit ya'lls slides now! Our presentations are within 3 days! Let's do this!

Good Day!

Evernote

Howdy ya'll.  It's almost the end of October. Enjoy this autumn season ya'll!

Today, I used the Evernote for the first time. Overall, it reminded me about Zotero. That is because it is a helpful software where it saves all the links of what we want to see again. However, Evernote includes more visual aids, which makes it more easier to find afterwards from the database. I was astonished when I tried using the evernote web clipper. (dandandaaaaan). It was my first time knowing a tool which we can easily edit the photos and save it on our drive. I usually used the paint or microsoft softwares to edit the photos. Evernote will definitely be very useful to prepare for any visual needing methods such as for presentation slides. I think I will use the sharing system of my own notebooks the most because I do not know any other tools to share my recourses this simple.

From professor Rab's video clips, I have learned useful way to present with the C.R.A.P method.
C-Contrast: Using contrasted size and colors of words.
R-Repetition: Repeat words/picture with the same font/size/color to maintain the style of
   presentation.
A-Alignment: Consider the placement of words on slide with pictures.
P-Proximity: Use the space of the slides effectively.
In addition, I thought ailment-placing the words in a appropriate place is the one I need to consider the most, since I tend to place words to use space affectively.

I learned one new thing from the video about effective slide design. That is, using clipart is to ugly and too old to include on the slides. Therefore, it is better to use real actual photos. Considering for the other factors, I knew before-hand from my English class at high school, however, reviewing these elements greatly reassured me what to do and not do in the presentation, we have coming up! Overall, I thought the presentators shall keep in mind to present a simple easiest way for the readers to understand, but with informative sources.

My umbrella topic is about food. In addition, my individual topic will be about "food has meanings. " In the conclusion, I am planning to convey the readers that it may be necessary to appreciate the food we are provided in this world.

Thank you for reading my blog. Don't catch a cold and have a great weekend! (or ICU festival!)

Zotero Part2

Alohaaaaa!

This is the wikipedia article I found ranked as the highest, FA and is related to my sports gender issues topic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_1952_Winter_Olympics_medal_winners. As you can tell, it shares the winter olympics medal winners from 1952 where the amount of women athletes were not great as now. It was surprising to know that Wikipeida can be one of the reliable sources to use since I heard there are many mistaken information provideded. However, with the reliable ranking system they have, it made me want to use more often and check the "talk" page.

On my blog, I inserted two types of in-text citation based on my past essay.

Newspaper Source
“Very important quote here”(Lombardi).

“Very important quote here”(Fuller page#). Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse molestaie cillum. Tia non ob ea soluad incommod quae egen ium improb fugiend. Officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum Et harumd dereud.

For this time, I found it easy to do the in-text citation and works cited from Zotero. All I need to do is to press the three buttons and drag! amaaaziiinngggg. In addition , we shall not forget to type in the page numbers for the book's in-text citation. Thus, I did not have any problems on editing the sources. I hope I can do use this wisely from now on. However, in order to that, I think I am going to have to download Zotera on my windows computer first!

Off I go! Thanks for reading my blog. Have a nice weekend!

Follow- up Sessions About Database

Hola mi amigos!

So on Monday the 30th, we got to hear a lecture about using the databases in ICU, from Ms. Tonegawa. This time, she gave us an opportunity to be in groups and a mission to complete. My group used the Gale Virtual Reference Library, which seemed very handy. It gave clear definitions of “hate speech” with much variety of sources. Including other three databases that were introduced by other groups looked very useful as well. I really appreciate the fact that they only show the reliable sources and the citation all set for us to see. Plus, as Dan said, some of these files can be saved on Zotera. Amazing. LexisNexis really caught my attention because it had many ways to sort out which newspapers we want to search such as by dates, name of company, etc.. (thus, it was the one Mizuki introduced me before!) I will make sure to have a good use of these useful databases in the next four years. I hope Ms. Tonegawa will share us other handy databases again! (well maybe I need to search out from myself...)

Speaking of “Hate Speech,” what did you guys think about this topic? Personally, I think it is nonsense. It is said that, Prime Minister Mr. Abe will or he MUST do something before the Tokyo Olympic in 2020. Even a 14 year old Japanese girl at Osaka took action by posting posters that says “No Hate, Share Love.” As a Japanese citizen I thought I need to rethink over about this topic, due to the fact that we are learning race, gender, and ethnicity this term.

Thank you for reading. Have a great week ya'll!

Zotera Part1

Hey guys!
So for my ARW essay, I decided to write about the gender issues in sports. These four sources are what I'm going to use for my essay↓

Fuller, Linda K. Sport, Rhetoric, and Gender: Historical Perspectives and Media Representations. First Edition edition. Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan, 2009. Print.
Giulianotti, Richard. Sport: A Critical Sociology. 1 edition. Oxford: Polity, 2004. Print.
Lombardi, Kate Stone. “Women in Sports Still an Issue . . .” The New York Times 17 Nov. 1996. NYTimes.com. Web. 22 Sept. 2014.
Paramaguru, Kharunya. “Why Are Some Olympic Women’s Teams Flying Coach While the Men Fly Business?” Time. olympics.time.com. Web. 22 Sept. 2014.

I'm going to emphasis how women's role in sports still needs to develop. The news article from Times is going to be my hook in the introduction. In addition, the other three sources are useful to paraphrase about the history of women's empowerment role in sports. I completely thought Zotera is a very useful tool such as when writing for graduation thesis, because we do not have to open up the LBH anymore to see how we cite the sources. Also, in the future ahead, it is a great tool to organise our list of sources by adding notes. Consequently, I can easily figure out what information I need to research more or not. However, there are so many pages to check at once so I think I will need time to get used it. Wooooooooo.

Thank you for reading my blog entry. Hope you have a great day off!

Summary of Survey Responses.

Hey guys, how are you today? Autumn is here and I think it’s almost the time of the year for us to sit on our comfy sofa with our hot warm delicious cocoas and watch amazing movies. So to get ready for that season, I brought up a survey about movies.
Happily, 18 people (including me. haha) has answered my survey, Favorite Movie. I was surprised to see 2 people respond, they do not like watching movies, because I have never heard of anyone say so. I thought maybe asking a question why they like watching movies or not would have been more interesting.

Since more than 3 quarters of the people said, they like to watch movies at a movie theater, I thought having a trip over to a movie theater someday with 2D will be great! In my opinion, even though they can sometimes be too cold, I love the dark atmosphere with loud volumes of sound at the movie theater.
Out of the four genres I presented, 44% of the people likes Comedy, 28% - Love Romance, 17%- Action, and 11% - Non-fiction. I felt agreeable that majority of the people will answer Comedy the most because comedy just makes us forget everything doesn't it?Personally, I like watching Comedy ×Love Romance because it gives me those WAHAHA moments and AWWW moments.
For the typical multiple-choice questionnaire (that Dan said it is hard to make), 14 people said sometimes, and 4 people said they often like to watch movies. Yes, I think watching movies is one of the great ways to spend during the free time with your friends and family. Watching movies is also one of the useful techniques to learn new languages and serious issues of themes.
Lastly, I asked my 2D classmates to share what movies they have watched recently! Here are the lists: Watashino Otoko, The Bridgette Jones' Diary, Alice in Wonderland, Shazai no Osoma, The Hunger Games, The Great Gatsby, Haizi, Bakumatsu Koukousei, My Fair Lady, Pretty Woman, Maleficent, Transformer4, Zombie Land, Her, Home Alone, Seven Samurai, 21 Jump Street. Out of the 18 answers, I haven’t watched 8 movies, so I better check them out!
Creating my own survey and having them answered by my classmates through the internet was my first experience. I thought it was really cool because we can receive many unpredictable opinions at once and I found it very useful to use in the future. It was very nice to have the ability to choose which kind of answer formats for the people to answer. I hope presenting the results from everyone can be interesting to others as well.
Thank you everyone for sharing your answers to my surveys. Plus, thank you for reading my blog, all the way through this bottom. Please comment if you have any opinions, thanks. Have a great week(:

Blog #1

Hello 2D! Autumn Term has started! Let’s do this.

In this class, Sir Dan will teach us how to research and present information academically. Learning these tools or strategies will be very helpful because we can present notable presentations with reliable evidences. As a matter of fact, these presentations may catch the audience’s attention and be very convincing. We also get to know the easier and clearer way to share a bunch of information at once to our peers. Thus, we can shorten the time we spend on the computer to organize what we have researched, by using these smart techniques we will learn. That means…wow, it can be useful for our time management too! All these helpfulness will make ourselves comfortable to share our own research and opinions to the people who we meet in the future.

Most of the time, I feel comfortable using the technology for learning. I like to investigate through different kinds of devices to know something new and amazing. However, I would like to note that whenever I learn something new, it takes time for me to adjust to it. In my life as a student, the apps, google translate and line news are helping me very well. That is because google translate can translate more than 80 languages to another. One time, my friend and I looked up how to say good night in several languages and we found it very interesting to hear the different pronunciations it provided. Line news gives a lot of updated important news from different genres such as business, entertainment, gourmet, etc., in a short brief sentences which is very easy and compact to read. After I find something interesting in line news that I want to read more deeply, I search it up through the web. I hope you guys find these apps interesting!

Please comment on my blog if you have any opinions. Thank you very much!
